Peer Mentoring Group for Doulas

Details

Susie Finnerty and Ada Johnson are excited to announce a peer to peer supervision group for doulas practicing in Rhode Island. As doulas and birth workers, we have each felt the need personally, and seen the need in our community for a supportive and confidential space for peer consultation which both centers families and is respectful of our craft. Those who come to this series agree to hold each person’s unique experience with mutual respect, whether we have been in practice for 2 or 20 years. This is a group created by two community doulas as their own venture and is not part of any other collective or organization. Read more about who we are here and here.

FAQ

Is this a doula collective?
No. Everyone has their own practice, experience, skill set and training background. Those who come to this space agree to hold each person’s unique experience with mutual respect, whether we have been in practice for 2 or 20 years. This is a group created by two community doulas as their own venture and is not part of any other collective or organization.

Are you my supervisor?
No. Ada and I are facilitators who keep time and organize the space, as well as create and uphold agreements amongst attendees. The experience is based off of the collective wisdom of those in the group.

Does this count as CEUs?
Each attendant will receive a certificate for 7.5 education hours. ACNM specialty credit has been applied for.

What if I am at a birth?
This is the nature of the work, thus there is the potential for someone to be away at a birth. In that case, you will be missed and the group will go on as planned.

We will meet on zoom or in person?
The first session on June 3rd will be held over zoom. On the agenda for that session will be to discuss whether in person (following COVID guidelines) is an option based on the comfort level of those in the group and current RIDOH/CDC guidelines.
